A Brief Outline of the Development of Krško
Volunteer Fire Brigade
The brigade was founded on 17th January 1871 under the name Krško Volunteer Fire Party. The founder was Viljem Pfeifer, a member of Parliament. In 1880 the new printed rules of the fire service in Slovenian and German were published. One volume is still kept in the archives of the brigade. In 1889 Josipina Hočevarjeva built for the purposes of the Brigade a fire station as a tool house with a wooden tower for drying up hoses. She also bought the first manual fire engine. In 1898 she had a unique massive training tower built for drilling and drying up hoses. In 1905 another span manual fire engine was bought and in 1919 the Brigade established their own brass band. In 1931 a bigger fire engine was purchased and in 1940 the Brigade acquired a standardized Mercedes fire truck that was used until 1975. During WW II the Brigade did not function. In 1971 a new fire station was built next to the tower. It had a garage for two fire trucks, a wardrobe and an office. In 1975 a TAM-2001 van and a ROSSENBAUER 8/16 fire engine were bought. In 1991, celebrating the 120th anniversary, the Brigade opened the renovated and enlarged fire station with four garages, a tool room, wardrobes, toilets, a hall with a stage, a council room, two offices and a small kitchen. |
